Situated just a twenty-minute drive northeast of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan lies the rolling, picturesque hills of Buffalo Pound Lake Provincial Park. Another twenty minutes further is the prairie lake, in close proximity to Qu’Appelle River’s headwaters, and is the gorgeous backdrop of our Buffalo Pond Lake Glamping Resort and the perfect place for your next family or couple’s escape from the hubbub of everyday life. Here’s a quick guide on what you need to know before you come to visit us at Buffalo Pond Lake Resort!

Buffalo Pound Lake

On the north shore of Buffalo Pound Lake you will find our Glamping Resort, with over 600 acres for you to explore full of incredible trails, the beach or the general Saskatchewan backcountry right outside your Glamping accommodations. The lake is named after the technique used by the Indigenous people of Treaty 4 to herd the bison or buffalo into corrals that used the natural terrain, or buffalo pounds they would build to trap the animals. Today, there’s a small herd of buffalo that live protected and safely corraled in the provincial park. The area is known for its beautiful rolling hills and breathtaking views, you won’t want to miss out on these sunsets!

What You Can Do

There’s plenty to keep you busy in the natural landscape of Buffalo Pound Lake Provincial Park, including numerous biking and hiking trails as well as many water activities like fishing or kayaking in the lake itself. The trails in the park are perfect for hiking, fat biking or mountain biking, cycling and cross-country skiing in the winter months. If walking is more your thing, there are a number of hiking trails ranging from 1.5 km to 8 km near Nicolle Flats Interpretive Area on the southeast edge of Buffalo Pound Lake. The scenery is surreal and you’ll have a front-row seat to tons of wildlife!
